昨年10月、イタリア・ヴェローナで開催されたESTAD（European Steel Technology and Application Days）において、本研究室から複数の学生が研究発表を行い、同会議での発表を契機として特集号への投稿勧誘を受けた論文が掲載されましたが、このたび同じくESTADでの発表を起点としたもう一編の論文が公開されました。

本論文の第一著者は学部4年生の徳永翼さんです。国際会議での口頭発表を経て、査読付き国際誌への投稿、修正、採択という一連のプロセスを経験しました。

研究テーマは、マイクロ波加熱を用いた製鉄副産物の炭素熱還元挙動の検討です。急速加熱条件下における反応挙動を整理し、加熱特性と還元挙動の関係について基礎的知見を提示しました。

国際査読付き英語論文の掲載および国際会議口頭発表は、一般に大学院博士後期課程で到達する研究成果とされます。学部段階でこれを達成したことは、特筆すべき成果と言えます。

現在、徳永さんは博士課程進学も視野に入れ、研究を継続する予定です。

研究成果そのものに加え、「発表する」「論文化する」「査読に応える」という研究の全過程を経験することが、研究者としての成長にとって極めて重要です。今回の連続掲載は、その積み重ねが形になった一例です。

今後も学生主体の研究活動を通じて、国際的に通用する研究力の育成を進めてまいります。

Consecutive Publications Originating from ESTAD

In October last year, several students from our laboratory presented their research at ESTAD (European Steel Technology and Application Days) in Verona, Italy.

Following our recent publication invited from the ESTAD special issue, another paper originating from the same conference has now been published.

The first author of this paper is Mr. Tsubasa Tokunaga, a fourth-year undergraduate student. After delivering an oral presentation at the international conference, he completed the full academic process of manuscript preparation, peer review, revision, and publication.

The study investigates the carbothermic reduction behavior of steelmaking by-products under microwave heating. By examining reaction behavior under rapid heating conditions, the work provides fundamental insights into the relationship between heating characteristics and reduction behavior.

In general, publication in an international peer-reviewed journal and oral presentation at an international conference are milestones typically achieved at the doctoral level. Accomplishing both at the undergraduate stage is therefore particularly noteworthy.

Mr. Tokunaga is now considering pursuing a doctoral program and continuing his research career.

Beyond the technical findings, experiencing the entire research process—from presentation to publication and peer review—is essential for developing as a researcher. These consecutive publications demonstrate how international conference participation can evolve into tangible academic achievements.

We will continue to foster internationally competitive research through student-led initiatives.
