2025年11月1日、九州大学 伊都キャンパスにて、材料工学科・保護者向けオープンキャンパスを開催しました。
九大祭でキャンパスが学生の活気に包まれる土曜日、今年は過去最多となる45名の保護者の皆さまにご参加いただき、材料工学科への関心の高まりを強く感じました。
当日は、寺西部門長による学科全体の概要説明の後、
教室・研究室・学生施設の見学を実施。
Q&A セッションでは、進級制度や研究室配属、大学での学びの進め方について、具体的で実践的な質問が多く寄せられました。
材料工学科では、基礎科学から社会実装までを一貫して学ぶ教育を大切にしています。
こうしたオープンキャンパスは、学生本人だけでなく、
ご家庭にも「大学で何を学び、どんな研究に取り組んでいるのか」を直接感じていただく大切な機会です。
これから進路を考える高校生・受験生の皆さんへ
材料工学は、社会課題（エネルギー・環境・ものづくり）と真正面から向き合える学問です。

Opening the Door to Materials Engineering — An Open Campus for Parents
On November 1, 2025, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Kyushu University hosted an Open Campus for Parents at the Ito Campus.
While students enjoyed the Kyudaisai (University Festival), we welcomed a record 45 parents, reflecting growing interest in the academic, research, and living environment of our department.
Following an overview of the department by Ryo Teranishi, participants joined guided tours of classrooms, laboratories, and student facilities.
The Q&A session generated active discussion on topics such as academic progression, laboratory assignments, and how students develop their research skills at university.
For us, events like this are an essential part of building trust between the university and families.
They also highlight how materials engineering education connects fundamental science with real societal challenges.
For prospective students, this open campus demonstrates that Kyushu University offers not only advanced research opportunities, but also a supportive and transparent learning environment—one that prepares students to engage with global challenges in materials, energy, and sustainability.
