12月5日、アーヘン研究出張の締めくくりとして、

RWTH Aachen University

**IEHK（Institut für Eisenhüttenkunde）**で毎年開催されている

**Doktorandenfest（博士課程学生・OB/OGの集い）**に参加しました。

この日はまず昼に Alexander Babich 先生とランチミーティングを行い、

水素製鉄、リサイクル技術、そして近年の欧州における産学連携の変化について意見交換を行いました。

午後の Doktorandenfest では、

Dieter Senk 先生、Babich 先生をはじめ、

かつて同じ研究室で議論を重ねた仲間たちと、15年ぶりに再会。

それぞれが今では欧州各地で研究者・技術者として活躍しており、

博士課程時代のネットワークが今も生き続けていることを強く実感しました。

さらに、

IME

の Bernd Friedrich 先生ともお会いし、

プロセス冶金の将来像について短時間ながらも密度の高い議論を実施。

SAF/EAF 技術に精通し、Gudenau グループの系譜を引く

Guido Kleinschmidt 先生との対話も、非常に印象深いものでした。

この一日は、

「研究とは個人の成果だけでなく、人と人のつながりの上に築かれるもの」

であることを、あらためて教えてくれました。

材料工学・冶金分野では、

学生時代に築いた議論や友情が、10年、20年後に国際共同研究として再び交わることが少なくありません。

アーヘンは今も、私にとって特別な学術的ホームであり、

ここから生まれる縁を、九州大学へ、そして次の世代へとつないでいきたいと考えています。

Coming Home as a Researcher — The Power of the Metallurgical Community in Aachen

On December 5, as the final part of my research visit to Germany, I joined the annual

Doktorandenfest at the IEHK (Institut für Eisenhüttenkunde) of

RWTH Aachen University.

The day began with a lunchtime meeting with Dr. Alexander Babich, where we exchanged views on hydrogen-based ironmaking, recycling technologies, and the evolving landscape of industry–academia collaboration in Europe.

In the afternoon, I attended the Doktorandenfest, a yearly reunion of doctoral students and alumni.

It was a great pleasure to reconnect—after nearly 15 years—with former colleagues such as Prof. Dieter Senk, Dr. Babich, and many others now active across Europe.

I also had the opportunity to meet Prof. Bernd Friedrich from

IME,

discussing future perspectives in process metallurgy, as well as Dr. Guido Kleinschmidt, whose extensive experience in SAF/EAF technologies and academic roots in the Gudenau group left a strong impression.

This visit reminded me that research careers are built not only on publications and experiments, but also on long-lasting human networks.

Aachen remains one of my academic homes, and I am more motivated than ever to strengthen long-term international collaboration between RWTH Aachen University, Kyushu University, and the global metallurgy community.
