3月16日〜19日に参加した国際会議の報告を少し遅れて振り返ります。
会場は築100年の歴史あるニューカッスル市庁舎。円卓形式の座席配置が印象的な、趣深い会場でした。
私はマイクロ波を活用した製鉄プロセスに関する発表を担当し、無事に終えることができました。
会議のもう一つのハイライトはネットワーキング。旧友との再会に加えて、欧州・豪州・アジアの研究者と新たなつながりを築くことができました。
会議後はニューカッスル大学のラボツアーに参加。企業規模の試験装置を、テクニシャンと一緒に運用するスタイルが印象的で、ドイツ滞在時の経験を思い出しました。
今年度からは渡航制限もさらに緩和される予定なので、今後も国際的な活動を加速させていきたいと思います。

Reflecting on a March Trip: International Conference on Sustainable Cokemaking and Ironmaking 2025
The new academic year has just begun here in Japan, but I’d like to take a moment to look back on the international conference I attended from March 16th to 19th.
The event was held at Newcastle City Hall, a historic venue with over 100 years of history. Its unique roundtable seating setup made for a memorable setting.
I presented on the application of microwave technology in ironmaking—a presentation that fortunately went well.
Another highlight was the networking. I had the chance to reconnect with old friends and build new relationships with researchers from Europe, Australia, and Asia.
After the conference, I joined a lab tour at the University of Newcastle. Their industrial-scale experimental equipment and hands-on collaboration with technicians reminded me of research environments I encountered during my stay in Germany.
I arrived in Newcastle via train from Sydney. The heat was intense, but I cooled off after some shopping at Woolworths—a familiar routine from my previous trip to Brisbane.
With international travel restrictions expected to ease further this year, I’m looking forward to expanding global collaborations even more actively.
